The science test ill be on Thursday. Students should be bringing home their worksheets and notes from the unit to help them prepare and gather information for the test.
Grade 4- Gears and Pulleys
Students will need to be able to identify that the purpose of pulley systems and gear systems are to create changes in direction, speed, or force.
Students will need to be able to describe how each gear in a gear train will move. This will include the direction of each gear, and when one gear is larger the difference in speed between the gears.
Students will need to be able to describe the differences between lifting an object directly off the floor and using 1 pulley (or more than one).
Students will need to be able to identify different pulley and gear systems that are used in daily life and explain the purpose of each.
Grade 5- Structures and Forces
Students will need to identify different forces and the difference between internal and external forces.
Students will need to describe the effects of external and internal forces on a structure.
Students will need to be able to Describe forces resulting from natural phenomena (such as hurricanes, tornados, tsunami, earthquake) that can have severe consequences for structures in the environment, and identify structural features that help overcome some of these forces.
