Math Homework for Thursday, April 6

Grade 4

Related Facts: If we know 3x4=12, then we also know:
4x3=12
12 ÷ 3= 4
12 ÷ 4=3

Please write the related facts for the following:
A) 4x6=24          B) 5x7=35         C) 72 ÷ 9 = 8           D) 27 ÷ 8=3

Use your knowledge of related facts to change the equations and then answer the questions. The first one is done for you as an example.

A) 4xP=20             B) 3xY=18         C) B ÷ 7 =42          D) Ax8=48
     20 ÷ 4 = P
      P = 5

Grade 5

Mr. Saunders wants to buy sub sandwiches for some of his students that like them. The sub shop gives him a rate of $4 per sub. Figure out the cost of the number of subs Mr. Saunders needs to buy in each case, using the equation C=4xs (where C stands for the total cost and s stands for the number of students):
-for 5 students
-for 8 students
-for 11 students
-for 15 students
-for the whole class

Amanda can ride her bike at a constant speed of 15 kilometres per hour. How far can get if she rides for 3 hours? 4 hours? 5 hours? What distance will she have travelled if she rides her bike fourteen hours over a week? Come up with your own formula (like the one given to you in the problem above) and use it to solve this problem.
