Field Trip

The students will be going on a field trip to see the Windsor Symphony Orchestra next Wednesday. They will need to have their money and forms in by this time. If you have volunteered, we will contact you if you have been selected. Please keep in mind that there is limited space for volunteers and you may not be contacted for this field trip. Thank you for your assistance.

Earbuds/Headphones

I am setting up a listening centre for students to use during literacy and have asked for students to bring in headphones or earbuds to use. These will also be useful at times they are using technology. I would like them to be inexpensive and able to stay at school so they will have them accessible when needed. If they are unable to have headphones, I do have a set they are welcome to use. Thank you.

March Break Homework

Students are asked to review their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division over the break. There will be a test on this information within two weeks following the break. Students have been asked to bring home their math textbooks and folders to practice during the break.

There is a writing assignment for students related to their break. Students are writing a persuasive letter to their classmates.

I have told the students that they should be writing ideas down about each day of their vacation or stay-cation near the end of each day, to create their brainstorm, so that it does not end up being a larger task at the end of the break. This should help them have lots of ideas ready at the end of the week.

As well, students have a new spelling list containing words with -ion endings.

Action
Union
Friction
Tension
Compression
Attraction
Addition
Subtraction
Division
Multiplication
Attention
Million
Billion
Calculation
Caution
Champion

Have a Fantastic March Break!

Reader Response

We are continuing to do reader response letters about the books we are reading. I have spoken recently with the class about moving away from just writing their letter with descriptions of what is happening in the book they are reading, to sharing their ideas about the books. I am looking for students to share their own thoughts about the books, and explain why they are thinking this way, using information from the book. We wrote down the following ideas of what they may write about:
-make a prediction about what you think might happen in the book and why you think it may happen
-discuss a previous prediction and whether it turned out to be correct or not
-tell a part you like in the book and explain why you liked it
-tell about a part you did not like in the book and explain why you did not like it
-tell what you like about the author's writing and explain why or give examples
-make connections (text to text, text to self, or text to world) explaining the situation in the text and the situation you are comparing it to
-tell what you are wondering about (a character, a situation, a possibility)

Parents can have students practice this at home after they read, writing a letter to give their ideas about their book.

Homework for Thursday, March 2

Students have to complete 2 sheets on multiplication (stapled together). They have been working on this for a couple of days now, and may have finished, however, they should be bringing it home to show a parent or guardian.

We are looking for donations of tissues to help us through the remainder of the year. If you are able to donate a box, it would be appreciated.
