Outside Art

Couldn't resist the beautiful weather today. Very hard to believe it is February! We went outside for art today so that we could use pastels to create pictures of items from outside.

Addition

This week we began the first part of our unit on Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. Students have been doing Number Talks on addition for a while now to strengthen their skills in adding and strategies they can use (ask the students about Number Talks if they have not already told you what they are and how we do them). This allows students to become faster using mental math to add. We began adding using algorithms this week in order to add. Students are practicing with standard ways of addicting four and five digit numbers, but are encouraged to get to know other ways that they can solve addition problems without a calculator. It may help to have the students practice addition facts at home (especially doubles, near doubles, and numbers that add to 10) as well as practicing adding 2-5 digit numbers with and without regrouping.

Homework for Thursday, February 2

Students will need to practice their multiples of 7 up to 70 (7, 14, 21, 28...)
