Literacy Day
The students had a literacy day! We read together as a class a few times, did riddles and poetry in math class, and built forts to read in at the end of the day. Check out the pictures of "Fort Literacy" below.
Multiples Homework
In preparation for our upcoming Multiplication and Division units, I am asking students to practice their multiples. They should already know their multiples of 2 (2, 4, 6, 8, 10...). I have asked them to practice their multiples of 3 (3, 6, 9, 12...) up to 30 and this weekend I would like them to review those and practice the multiples of 4 (4, 8, 12, 16...) up to 40. On Monday we will have a small quiz where they will have to list the multiples of 3 and 4. We will continue to do this for each digit in preparation for when they will use this knowledge for multiplication and division.

Math Test
The math test has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday.
Grade 4 students will need to be able to do the following:
-measure and record length using mm and cm
-draw items with a given length and width in mm or cm
-measure and record the perimeter of various polygons
-measure and record the area of various polygons
-identify the amount of millimetres in 1centimetre, centimetres in 1metre, millimetres in 1metre, metres in 1kilometre
Grade 5 students will need to be able to do the following:
-measure and record length using mm and cm
-measure and record the perimeter of various polygons
-measure and record the area of various polygons
-create shapes on a grid with the same Perimeter or area
-use the formula P= 2xL + 2xW or P= 2x L+W to find the perimeter of a rectangle
-use the formula A= LxW to find the area of a rectangle
-solve problems requiring conversion from metres to centimetres and from kilometres to metres

New Date for Brochure Project
The final copy of the brochures are now due on Monday (January 23rd) instead. This will allow students extra time to work on their final copy over the weekend. Please make sure to have students look over their rough drafts with the feedback notes I have given them, before they create their final copy. If students passed in their rough draft to me today, and have not already received it back with the feedback, they will be getting theirs back tomorrow.

Homework for Thursday, January 12
Students have another set of Perimeter and Area practice sheets for tonight. As well, there will be a math unit test on Measurement on Wednesday about using a ruler to measure and draw items, finding the perimeter and area of shapes, drawing shapes of a specific perimeter or area, and converting measurements between units.

Homework for Wednesday, January 11
There are Perimeter and Area worksheets the students have for homework tonight. They will be working on them in class today. If a student is finished they are still expected to bring the sheets home to look them over with someone.

Social Studies Brochure Reminder
As a reminder, the rough copy of the Social Studies brochure project is due this Monday. If students are finished their rough copy ahead of time, I encouraged them to bring them in earlier. I will look over the rough copies and give feedback on their projects so that they may fix them up for their final copy.
